The Truth About The MOU

Facts

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a document that was put together by the Presidents of two local community associations and Mr. Halle (applicant for the proposed landfill). The document was introduced by the Greater Crofton Council (GCC) President to local community associations at one of their meetings. The representatives from those local community organizations were not given time to take the MOU back to their communities for proper review. The President of the GCC insisted that they vote on the MOU on the same night that it was first introduced to them. Many of the local community associations were upset that they did not have time to review the document with their Board of Directors, or members of their community associations, prior to voting. WHY THE BIG RUSH?

In order for the MOU to have any meaning, it must be approved by our County Officials. None of whom are in favor of this document.

The MOU sounds like a sweet deal, but buyer beware. The deal included:
1. A new high school - which will cost the tax payers dearly.

Mr. Halle is not "giving" anyone a "free" school!

2. Athletic fields/facility - on top of the landfill ground several decades, after the landfill is closed.

Would you want your children playing on top of a landfill not knowing what is buried in it?

3. Annual payments to local communities in exchange for allowing the landfill?

Who exactly will receive this money? Will the communities be fighting over who gets the money?
